Recreational Fire Permits

Recreational fires, such as backyard wiener roasts, are allowed, but they must follow the state law guidelines, including:

  • Winds must be less than 5 mph
  • An adult must be attendance at all times
  • Smoke cannot offend anyone
  • Only firewood can be burned (no leaves, yard waste, paper, garbage, or other flammable materials)

A permit for recreational fires in the area covered by the Farmington Fire Department is $10.00 per year.  Recreational fires may be randomly inspected.  Recreational fires:

  • Maximum size of the fire shall be 3 feet in diameter with flames no higher than 2 feet
  • Minimum distance from a structure shall be 25', and 6' from the property line, and loacted in the backyard area

Open Burn Permit
  • Permit is $20.00 per time from the Farmington Fire Department
  • Area to be burned must be inspected before a permit is approved
  • Permit holder agrees to keep the fire under control and assume responsibility for all damages and costs that may result from burnig done under this permit, and must attend the fire until completely extinguished.

Randolph-Hampton permits

For residents living in the area of the Township serviced by the Randolph-Hampton Fire Department, permits are required.  Please contact the Fire Chief, Jim Heiman, at 507-645-7562, for further information and fee requirements.
